Case
Histories
One
of the most important things that a consultant can do for a potential
client is allow them insight into actual jobs that have been performed.
While our Privacy Policy prohibits the release of certain information,
you will find case histories below and links that have been pre-approved
by our clients for use in helping you to make an informed decision
about consulting services. We invite you to contact us for any
further information that you might need on any of these histories.
This ability to hold all clients' information in absolute condfidence
is one of the things that sets BTF apart from the rest of the
small business consultants.
Publishing
Company
A
BTF Principal assisted a printing and publishing company having
$1.5 million of annual revenue without a reported profit for 2 years.
The current owner had purchased the company for cash and leased
the building from the previous owner. The checking account was overdrawn
and the bank had refused any further extension of credit. In addition,
there was a large judgment for an equipment rental contract. The
recovery plan was built on a bankruptcy case that was prepared but
not filed. With this as a negotiation position, the judgment was
deferred for 10 years and the previous owner sold the building for
a discount of market value. This asset was then used as collateral
to obtain operating funds with a weekly financial reporting system
used to inform the bank. The recovery plan continues to date.
Asphalt
and Concrete Company
A
BTF Principal assisted an asphalt and concrete company having $5.5
million of annual revenue with $100,000 of losses per year for the
last 2 years. A financial controls audit revealed that internal
theft from one of the company principals was a primary reason for
the losses. A new business plan was prepared including financial
controls and responsibility. An audit of the bid process allowed
tighter bids and improved the capture rate for new projects.
Oilfield
Machine Shop
A
BTF Principal assisted a 10-man oilfield machine shop having $1.5
million of annual revenue and an operating loss for the most recent
3 years. The bank credit had been frozen and the decision was in
process to either continue or reduce operations. A job status board
was installed in the shop where current costs of each job were compared
against bid costs. The shop was informed of the exact financial
condition of the company. The shop was represented in the bid process
and all jobs were to be under budget and ahead of schedule even
if this resulted in working off the clock. By this combination of
management/labor control, every subsequent project taken on was
produced at a profit.
Exterior
Cladding Company
A
BTF Principal assisted a exterior cladding company with the implementation
of its expansion plans into the manufacture of concrete brick, concrete
block and concrete pavers on property owned by the principal shareholder.
Such activities included long-term debt finance, private placement
finance and other consulting services for this $7.0 million project
that has been in commercial production for nearly 18 months.
Sealant
Manufacturer
In
addition, this same brick company client is also the owner of a
tire sealant manufacturer known as Flat Buster® that
has retained the services of a BTF Principal, who assists with business
strategy, commercial and marketing activities and also serves as
a member of the Company's Board of Directors.
Nursing
Home Chain
One
of the BTF principals directed the IT conversion of a major nursing
home healthcare company with over 9,000 employees. This involved
a total changeover of all hardware and software along with the initiation
of a new POT (Point Of Transaction) process. The role of the IT
expert was to select hardware, software where available, design
and develop new software as required, and to manage and direct the
physical conversion.
Computer
Manufacturer
A
BTF Principal assisted a regional, white-box computer manufacturer
that builds and sells wholesale and retail "ready-to-go"
and customized personal computers coupled with the "small town"
personalized service. The company commenced trading on the NASDAQ
Bulletin Board under the symbol COLV after being merged with a public
shell obtained via investment bankers arranged by a BTF Principal.
A BTF Principal was instrumental in the preparation of this client's
Strategy and Business Plan, annual Operating Plans and assisted
with private placement finance.
Wholesale
Distributor
Another
BTF client is a wholesale distributor of commercial and industrial
paper products. A BTF Principal prepared the initial Strategy and
Business Plan and assisted with working capital finance for the
company.
International
Multimedia CD-ROM
A
BTF Principal was responsible for the design and development of
the Edinburgh Castle Official CD Rom Tour which uses 3D modeling,
movies, 360 degree interconnected panoramas, bagpipe music recorded
live at the castle and the only non-government 3-D pictures of the
oldest crown jewels in Christendom.
Movie
Distributor
Another
client is the owner of over 2,000 movie properties and should soon
become a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ Bulletin Board. A
BTF Principal assisted with the Company's Strategy and Business
Plan and private placement finance.
Commercial
Development of U.S. Patent
A
BTF Principal assisted with the commercial development of United
States Patent No. 5,909,589 titled Internet Based Training. In addition,
a BTF Principal also assisted in private placement finance for a
virtual tour CD of the Edinburgh Castle in Scotland that was prepared
by a venture of this client.
Distribution
Contract Negotiation
Another
client was assisted by a BTF Principal with the negotiation of a
ten-year exclusive distribution agreement for the states of Louisiana,
Mississippi and Arkansas for the tire sealant known as Flat
Buster®. In addition, the BTF Principal assisted with
private placement finance and negotiated the acquisition of a minority
ownership interest by this client in the tire sealant manufacturer.
A BTF Principal also serves as a member of the Board of Directors
of this client.
Gasoline
Stations
A
BTF Principal assisted the owner of real estate properties involved
in gasoline marketing and convenience store operations. BTF Principals
were instrumental in the development of the company's Strategy
and Business Plan and arranged for term debt finance in the amount
of $10.0 million for an acquisition of certain additional properties
that unfortunately did not close due to the inability of the principals
to reach a final agreement.
Internet
Database and Interactive Services Development
In
the area of IT, BTF principals have managed and directed the development
and deployment of an Internet based customer service system that
provided for sale of products, delivery of newsletters and real
time updating several databases, some as large as 800,000 members.
